Today’s Valentine’s Day/#wcw goes to Rachel McLish.
Rachel McLish won the first ever IFBB Ms. Olympia in 1980. After an impressive four year career, she retired and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999. Not only was she one of the first female bodybuilders, she also acted in several movies portraying a physically strong woman, being one of the first to take on such a role.
While McLish is less muscular than even today’s IFBB Figure Pros, she was muscular for her time. She, and other female bodybuilders, had academics theorize that bodybuilding could be feminist resistance by challenging the prevailing gender norms of the time.
